It's Begun Already!

It's very hard to believe, but some inconsiderate folks over on the Southside shot off fireworks at 11:00 last evening. March 27th makes to argument that celebrating this great nations independence with fireworks pretty lame. Perhaps it's time more considerate folks living in Bellingham get more involved in the effort to get consumer fireworks banned in our City.

Consumer Fireworks Return

On this past Monday and Tuesday evenings - 12/27 and 12/28/10 - consumer fireworks were heard in the Happy Valley Neighborhood. 911 was called on both occasions, since actual use of consumer fireworks is allowed ONLY from 6:00PM on New Year's Eve (12/31/2010) until 1:00AM on New Years Day (1/1/2011).

Welcome to the "Freedom From Fireworks in Bellingham, WA" Blog

Welcome! This blog is, to use a well-worn phrase, a "work in progress". Our efforts to promote a ban of consumer fireworks in our City began in July, 2009. This blog is being launched as a continuation of these efforts. Currently, it is primarily informational, a way to let folks learn about why a ban of consumer fireworks in our City is a viable alternative to the way things are now. Provided is information about the current State and local laws that address fireworks and noise. Also provided is anecdotal information regarding many of the bans that already exist in over 50-cities in our State, information regarding how 4th of July fireworks in 2010 caused pets to end up at the Whatcom County Humane Society shelters as well as a closer look at so-called "safe and sane" fireworks. A link to an on-line petition in support of a ban in Bellingham is also provided. Please visit this petition and consider adding your endorsement and comments. Future additions to this "work in progress" will include an historical review of Bellingham's fireworks ordinance, revisions to the "PTSD and Consumer Fireworks" page, and timely updates as to how our grass roots efforts are going.
